TSHILUBA.co is the world’s leading online Tshiluba dictionary. What is Tshiluba? Tshiluba, also known as "The Language of The Angels", is a Bantu language of Central Africa and a National language of the Democratic Republic of Congo, alongside Lingala, Swahili, and Kikongo. The total number of speakers was estimated to be 6.3 million in 1991. Tshiluba is chiefly spoken in a large area in the Kasaï Occidental and Kasaï Oriental provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, the differences in Tshiluba within the area are minor, consisting mostly of differences in tones and vocabulary, and speakers easily understand one another. Both dialects have subdialects. As the Luba culture and language has been transmitted mainly orally, there are no precise writings recounting in detail the genesis of the Luba Empire, nor the precise origin of the Baluba language; Hence, our goal is to provide millions of Tshiluba definitions, spellings, audio pronunciations, example sentences, and word origins in order to digitally preserve orally passsed down information. Tshiluba.co’s vision is to build and establish the rich language of the Luba-Kasaï people while also offering a Word of the Day, word games, and much more content that benefit the advancement and preservation of the Tshiluba language.
Tshiluba.co is an ongoing project heavily reliant on the public to commit to building a strong, cohesive, and effective structure for the future generations to formally learn and teach Tshiluba. The words included in this dictionary are included on criteria based on modern usage, linguistic consistency, and true meaning. Many have sought out to build a Tshiluba dictionary, and while resources are uncohesive, inconsistent, and questionable, the Tshiluba language needs to be upheld with structure, unity, and pride. Tshiluba.co was created to solve the ongoing dilemma by creating an online resource for anyone seeking to study, learn, and master the Tshiluba language while also bridging the gap between French and English speakers.
